Pet-friendly beaches for you and your pooch to enjoy in Malta
We’re walking you through the official list where dogs can go for a dip in Malta, but your dogs can still swim elsewhere.
As a general rule, dogs are allowed to swim in any beach that doesn’t have sand, beaches that are not bathing locations or ones that do not have local council signs prohibiting dogs.
Ahrax area near camping site
Located in the northern area of Malta, closer to Gozo than it is to the south of the island, is this grand rural land.
With caves of splendour, like the coral lagoon, to explore within the area, L-Ahrax should definitely be one of your ‘Visit Malta’ destinations whether or not your pet will be joining you.
It’s not just the perfect area for a camping trip when the weather starts getting colder, but also one of the best places for you and your pooch to take a dip in during the hot summer months.
Imgiebah Bay in Selmun
Apart from enjoying the crystal clear sea and sand that Selmun has to offer, you can also make a hike out of it as it is one of Malta’s top nature spots.
If sea is not the only thing you’re after, there’s even a little abandoned building with some colourful graffiti art which is just a 10-15 minute walk away. This location is topped as one of Malta’s off the beaten track Instagram hot spots, giving you the perfect opportunity to snap some amazing shots with your furry friend.
Rinella Bay in Kalkara
Even your pooch deserves to enjoy some #views, and with a pet friendly beach that overlooks the Grand Harbour, does it really get any better than that?
Zonqor Point in Marsascala
St Thomas Bay is the busiest and most frequented beach within the Southern area, but just a few metres away from it, you’ll find Zonqor Point.
Think of it like this: you’ll basically enjoy the same sea-quality but without all the sand and chaos.
Tigne Point, Sliema
You won’t be able to take your pet into one of Malta’s most established shopping centres, but right behind it is the perfect place for both of you to head for a swim.
If you guys are the next “titty the diving dog” duo, you can show off your diving skills as you dive into the water from a mediocre-to-high height.
Behind Splash and Fun in Bahar ic-Caghaq
A quiet and less-frequented rocky beach for you and your pet to enjoy.
Situated in Bahar ic-Caghaq, it’s also great if you plan on organising a BBQ – with supermarkets nearby, planning one should be a breeze, and you’ll even probably befriend some locals while you’re at it.
Mgarr ix-Xini, Xewkija, Gozo
One of the biggest challenges that comes with this location is actually arriving to the beach. Buses don’t flow easily or frequently to the location; your best bet is renting a car or getting a taxi.
But once you’re there, the effort will have been more than worth it. Apart from being a backdrop to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s movie, it’s seas are calm and surrounding by caves waiting to be explored.
Coast of Xwejni Bay, Marsalforn, Gozo
If you’re visiting Gozo, this bay is not only suitable for your pooch, but is also right next to the salt pans.
And if that’s not enough to satisfy your ‘Visit Gozo’ bucket list, there’s a crab shack nearby that’s a great chill-out area where loads of locals frequent.
